Japanese Overseas Migration Museum

The museum’s exhibits chronicle the history of Japanese migration, beginning in 1866 when Japan lifted its national seclusion policy. Early emigrants set sail for destinations like Hawai‘i, North America, and later, Latin American countries such as Peru and Brazil. Through meticulously curated displays, visitors can explore personal narratives, artifacts, and photographs that depict the emigrants’ journeys and the communities they established abroad.

For those keen on delving deeper, the museum’s Reference Room houses approximately 20,000 materials related to overseas migration. It’s an invaluable resource for students, researchers, and anyone interested in the intricate tapestry of Japanese migration history.
