Opened in January 2025, Sony Park is the successor to the original Sony Building in Ginza, offering a starkly different approach to its predecessor. Unlike the previous electronics showcase, the new Sony Park features five upper floors and three underground levels, all interconnected and directly linked to the Tokyo Metro subway system.
Each floor is referred to as a “park,” yet the design is far from what one might expect of a park-like space. Instead of greenery, visitors will find a brutalist-inspired structure, defined by stark concrete surfaces, open levels, and minimal decoration. While this design allows for versatile event spaces, it feels cold and uninviting, an unusual choice for a building with “park” in its name.
On B3, visitors can experience Nibun no Ichi, a unique dining concept, while the rooftop (5th level) serves as another event space, offering views of the Sukiyabashi intersection. At the time of its opening, the Afeela car from Honda Sony Mobility was on display here.
Unlike the former Sony Building, which featured an extensive Sony product showcase, the Sony Park Centre does not house any product exhibits. Instead, Sony’s latest innovations can now be found at the Nissan Crossing building, located one block away.
While the Sony Park concept is intriguing, its stark and minimalist design makes it feel bland and somewhat uninspiring. However, as an adaptable space, there is hope that it will evolve over time into something more engaging.
