Hiroshima’s Asa Zoological Park is one of Japan’s better zoo’s and is really worth a visit.
Opened in 1971 the Asa Zoo houses thousands of animals across over 25 hectares. One of Asa Zoo’s more popular attractions is the red panda known as the Lesser Panda or Firefox and has a kind of raccoon type appearance.
The Asa Zoo also features a petting zoo and a play park that is popular with kids of all ages.
The zoo is open from 9:00am to 4:30pm daily, to get to the zoo take the Chorakuji or Koikikoen-bound Astram Line rapid transit from Astram Hondori Station to Kamiyasu Station.From there, take the Dobutsu-Koen Asahigaoka-bound bus. Admission at the time of writing was 500 yen for adults and 170 yen for children.
