Towering over Yamashita Park, the Yokohama Marine Tower stands 106 metres high, making it the tallest lighthouse in the world.
Built in 1961 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Yokohama’s port opening, the tower still functions as an active lighthouse. Its alternating red and green lights sweep the bay every 20 seconds, guiding ships from far out at sea.
Observation Deck & Facilities
Below the tower’s beacon is a two-floor observation deck on the 29th and 30th floors, offering 360-degree panoramic views of Yokohama. On a clear day, visitors can even see the snow-capped peak of Mount Fuji.
At the base of the tower, a four-story complex houses a café, restaurant, bar, and gift shop. The third floor features two event halls, used for art exhibitions, weddings, and other events.
Since its opening, over 25 million people have visited Marine Tower. Recently, it underwent extensive renovations and reopened in early 2009.
