Landmark Tower

Yokohama’s Landmark Tower certainly lives up to its name. One of Japan’s most striking architectural feats, it is also the country’s tallest skyscraper, standing at 296 metres. While the Eiffel Tower-inspired Tokyo Tower is taller at 333 metres, it is a steel structure, and its viewing platform is actually lower than the one in Landmark Tower.

Located in Minato Mirai 21, Yokohama’s waterfront precinct, the Landmark Tower dominates the skyline with its imposing and elegant presence.

Opened in 1993, the building houses a luxury hotel, office spaces, and extensive retail facilities. Its 70 floors boast a combined floor space of nearly 400,000 square metres.

The tower features one of the world’s fastest elevators, whisking visitors up to the 69th-floor observatory and Sky Garden in just seconds. From here, guests can enjoy 360-degree panoramic views of Yokohama and beyond. On clear days, Mount Fuji can even be seen through the western-facing windows. At night, the cityscape transforms, offering a breathtaking display of lights.

Designed by Hugh Stubbins and Associates, Landmark Tower incorporates advanced earthquake-resistant technology. This technology includes flexible reinforcements that help absorb seismic forces and Massive dampeners in the top corners to reduce sway.

The huge shopping mall links massive Queens Towers complex which has dozens of restaurants including the Hard Rock Cafe and even more shops and boutiques and some with very interesting names like a teens fashion store called Octopus Army and a ladies boutique called Labrador Retriever. Ground level between the two towers is one of the most stunning sculptures in Japan resembling a twisted chrome rollercoaster.
